How many times do you promote your stream?

How many times do you or should you promote your stream? Is there like a certain number of times you promote during offline time or before your next stream, and a certain number of times you send a tweet or anything out to let people know you're in the middle of streaming while you're on? And what about different platforms- what do you promote on besides twitter as far as actually saying you're online and not just general promotion?
